The Cranberry Tale

The scene opens with me thinking what a great idea it would be to start making one planned Thanksgiving recipe: Home made cranberry sauce. I enlist the three year old. He’s eagerly switches gears from his Winnie the Pooh video and says, “Sure I’ll help.”

The recipe is easy and the mixing and boiling and simmering go as planned.

Perhaps my mistake was that I let him stand to close to the oven.

But he wanted to see our cranberries transform into squishy goodness.

Our homemade recipe is a success. The hot cranberries are put in the nonreactive bowl (stainless steel is apparently nonreactive, I had to call my husband to verify) to cool down. I’ve warned him in as many ways possible, “Noah this is hot. Stand back. It’s REALLY hot. I don’t want it to splash on you. By the way did I tell you this was hot and please don’t touch the bowl. That’s HOT too.” It seems he must be understanding. He isn’t touching the bowl. He complies and stands back when I pour. The tranfer has been made safely from hot sauce pan to bowl. All is well, everyone is happy.

I look away for two seconds.

He decides he wants to touch the hot oven where the saucepan had previously been simmering. Thus begins our hour long saga of dealing with the burn on the tip of his finger. The howling and screaming and pain. And the ice water. Wait no, no ice. SCREAM!

I did feel bad for him. I am sorry to report I chuckled here and there because I am amazed at the level of drama in this child.

Thirty minutes later:

Hope this incident only educates and doesn’t prevent future cooking endeavors.

Oy Vey!

(Hosted by Mrs. 4444)

*I finished the first round of Thanksgiving shopping. I say first because I probably forgot something. I hope some store is open that day, just in case.

*Book Fair night was not like the book fairs of my childhood. First of all, it was at Barnes and Noble. Second there was a clown named Honey Dew who made balloons animals and painted faces. And overall, it was pretty chaotic with the crafts and the story times, and the kids playing sword fights with their balloons. Wow.

*Planning to watch W. to support my American Wife reading.

*I almost bought Sarah Palin’s Going Rogue at Walmart. I had read it was 9 bucks. That was not true, so I did not buy it. I’m intrigued and Oprah helped influence my decision. If she’ll read it, then maybe I should too. I should be well rounded – poltically (and physically).

*WTF Oprah!!!! I still want to go to your show. I hope getting your own network will still mean I can come visit you sometime.

*Reading a book with my iPhone Kindle app. It is going pretty well. It’s a book I’ve already read (The Lovely Bones). One thing I really like is being able to read in bed without having to mess with a book light. I seem to struggle often with getting the light to attach to the book, and then it’s flopping in my face or not pointing the right way. I would be willing to try a real Kindle.

*I think I may be tiring of Chic Fil A. I always thought I was a die hard fan. There are so many Chic-Fil-A’s here, it’s too easy. I was eating almost every week when we moved here. It’s too available.

*Noah asked, “Why did you make that face?” when he walked into the kitchen after having used the potty. He had taken all his clothes off to pee just cuz. That’s why I made that face.

*This next weeks is going to busy. Hoping my house will get cleaned some how, the food will all work itself out, and everyone will be happy and stuffed.

The Kryptonite Margarita

The Kryptonite Margarita

This was the totally ridiculous drink I ordered at our friends’ baby shower. I was slightly embarrassed at the size of this monster drink. I made Kyle carry it around for me as we circulated the baby shower party. Sadly, I did not finish the Kryptonite. It won.

Trying out a new bike.

Trying out a new bike.

Looks like someone is ready for a bike with training wheels! I’m excited because it means new adventures, I’m scared because it means new adventures. It was nice to seem him at least trying the bike. He didn’t want to get on a few weeks ago.
